7,000 years ago, Scotland was covered in rainforests.  But climatic conditions and human activity transformed the country into a mix of mighty castles, bare mountains, and reputable cities.  Yet there’s a place that’s almost unchanged. A small region that hid away and conserved the ancient wilderness.  They call it Glen Affric.

145 square kilometres of forest canopies, rivers, stags, and snow-crested mountains.  And on this tour, you take the single-track lanes through a Caledonian pine forest to one of the best walks in the region.

But that’s not all, you also get a chance learn about the ruined monastic site at Beauly Priory and experience Highland life in the Victorian village of Strathpeffer.

Join this day-tour and explore one of Scotland’s most untouched landscapes.

DEPARTURE FROM INVERNESS: Stance 7, Inverness Bus Station, Margaret St, Inverness, IV1 1LT
The tour departs at 9:00am and returns at approx. 6:00pm same day.

Day

Tour

Glen Affric, Culloden & Clava Cairns

You venture out of the ‘Capital of the Highlands’ and travel north-west to Strathpeffer Village.

In the 1800s, a doctor said this area’s sulphurous waters had healing properties. You’re unable to test the waters yourself, but you have time to enjoy the splendid architecture and tea-shops of this unusual Highland spa town.

You arrive in Beauly in the afternoon. Here, you have the chance to stretch your legs and explore the historic ruins of Beauly Priory. 13th-century French monks called this religious site 'beau lieu', which means 'beautiful place'. You can decide how beautiful it is for yourself while you pick a spot to have lunch before heading into Glen Affric.

You ramble along Glen Affric's winding roads and stop off for walks amongst the indigenous Caledonian pine trees. The paths here are gentle; however, they’re on uneven and rocky paths. You get the chance to enjoy views over Loch Affric and the mountains beyond, and your driver-guide ensures you go to best waterfalls and photo spots throughout the afternoon.

Your final journey takes you along the shores of Loch Ness and back to the centre of Inverness for the early evening.
