This was the second time I booked a holiday with RIT and it didn’t disappoint. The itinerary, the tour guide, the hotels, the meals… everything was top notch…
Meet your driver and Tour Manager in Glasgow as we begin our exciting journey exploring Scotland’s Inner Hebridean Islands. Travelling west through beautiful Highland scenery, we stop in the picturesque town of Inveraray where you will have free time to explore its charming streets and waterfront. Continuing onward, we arrive in the bustling harbour town of Oban, known as the “Gateway to the Isles.” Before checking into our hotel, enjoy a guided tour and tasting at Oban Distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest and smallest whisky distilleries. This evening, gather for a welcome dinner as you settle into your island adventure.
This morning we sail from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. From here, we travel across the island’s spectacular landscapes to the village of Fionnphort, where a short ferry ride takes us to the sacred Isle of Iona. Rich in history and tranquillity, Iona offers stunning white-sand beaches and the opportunity to visit the historic Iona Abbey, one of Scotland’s most significant religious sites. After time to explore the island at leisure, we return to Mull and sail back to Oban. This evening is free for you to enjoy Oban at your own pace, perhaps sampling fresh seafood at a local restaurant, visiting one of Scotland’s oldest pubs, or enjoying the town’s famous fish and chips.
Today we travel north to Fort William before joining the famous “Road to the Isles,” one of Scotland’s most scenic drives. Along the way we pass the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct and Monument, known to many from film and television. Arriving in the charming fishing village of Mallaig, you will have time to explore before we sail across the Sound of Sleat to Armadale on the Isle of Skye. From here we continue to our hotel in Broadford where we settle in for our stay on this legendary island.
Today we explore the remarkable Trotternish Peninsula, a geological wonder home to some of Skye’s most iconic scenery. Marvel at natural landmarks such as the Old Man of Storr, the dramatic cliffs of Kilt Rock, and the rugged beauty of the Quiraing. Those wishing to stretch their legs may enjoy a short walk to the enchanting Fairy Glen, a magical landscape of winding paths and moss-covered trees that feels straight out of folklore. Later, we visit the colourful harbour town of Portree where you will have time to browse local shops and cafés.
Today we explore Skye’s western peninsula. Our first stop is the historic Sligachan Bridge where, weather permitting, we enjoy breathtaking views of the dramatic Black Cuillin Mountains. Local legend says that dipping your face in the nearby waters may grant everlasting beauty. Continuing through Skye’s rugged landscapes, we visit Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years. Still a living family home, the castle blends medieval history with Victorian elegance and a deep sense of Highland tradition. We also visit the Giant MacAskill Museum, which tells the story of Angus MacAskill, believed to be the tallest man who ever lived. Lunch is included today before we continue exploring the island’s extraordinary scenery. This evening we celebrate our journey with a farewell dinner accompanied by local entertainment.
Departing Skye, we cross the Skye Bridge back to the mainland and travel through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Our route takes us through the dramatic landscapes of Glen Coe and across the wild beauty of Rannoch Moor before entering Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Here we stop at a traditional local pub to enjoy a farewell lunch before continuing on to Glasgow where the tour concludes at a central drop-off point.
