Discover Southern England’s castles, cathedrals, vineyards, and seaside charm in one captivating journey.
Step into the stories of England’s past on this enchanting tour through the picturesque counties of Kent and ending in everyone’s favourite city, London. From the stately elegance of Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill, to the majestic beauty of Leeds Castle and the vineyard-dotted landscapes of the “Garden of England,” each day offers a rich blend of history, culture, and countryside charm. Explore Tudor treasures at Penshurst Place and Hever Castle, uncover centuries of spiritual significance in Canterbury. We visit 2 iconic filming locations, Chatham Historic Dockyard, which doubles as 1950’s and 1960’s Poplar, London for the series ‘Call the Midwife’. Here we have a guided tour sharing stories, photographs and behind-the-scenes insight into the filming process. Then Richmond Upon Thames for a walking tour that covers iconic filming locations of Ted Lasso, like Ted’s front door, the thinking bench and of course the infamous pub!
Journey into the Garden of England as we visit Chartwell, the beloved home and gardens of Sir Winston Churchill. Preserved much as it was during Churchill’s lifetime, the house is filled with personal mementoes, books, and photographs, while the beautiful hillside gardens reflect his love of nature and landscape.
A short drive brings us to Quebec House, the charming childhood home of General James Wolfe, victor of the Battle of Quebec, with exhibits highlighting both his life and Georgian England.
Later, we continue to our elegant 4-star country house hotel in Kent, where we settle in for a relaxing four-night stay.
Today we visit the enchanting Leeds Castle, often described as the “loveliest castle in the world.” Set on two picturesque islands, this stunning castle has served as a royal residence for six medieval queens and was once a favourite retreat of King Henry VIII. Enjoy a guided tour as we uncover its fascinating history and elegant interiors.
Later, we discover another side of Kent with a visit to a local vineyard for a guided tour and tasting, showcasing why the region has become one of England’s leading wine producers.
Today we explore two of Kent’s most historic estates, both closely linked to the Tudors. Our first stop is Penshurst Place, where we discover its rich medieval and Tudor history, elegant state rooms, and beautiful Elizabethan gardens, with records dating back to the 14th century. Lunch is included here today.
Later, we continue to Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. Enjoy time to explore the intimate castle interiors and magnificent gardens while learning about Anne’s connection to Henry VIII and Tudor England.
Today we follow Kent’s picturesque east coast, visiting one of its charming seaside towns with free time to stroll the waterfront, browse independent shops, or relax in a local café.
This afternoon, we arrive in the medieval city of Canterbury for a guided walking tour and a visit to the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, the spiritual heart of the Church of England and one of the country’s most iconic landmarks.
Tonight, we enjoy dinner in a traditional pub nestled in the beautiful Kent Downs.
Discover over 400 years of maritime history at The Historic Dockyard Chatham, one of the world’s best-preserved dockyards from the age of sail. Enjoy the fascinating Ropery Tour and learn about the traditional craft that played a vital role in Britain’s naval history.
We also step behind the scenes of the beloved TV series Call the Midwife on an official filming location tour. Following an included lunch, we continue to central London for a relaxing three-night stay.
Travel to the charming riverside town of Richmond upon Thames for a guided tour blending local history with popular culture. Follow in the footsteps of Ted Lasso as we visit famous filming locations, including Ted’s local pub, his front door, and the iconic “thinking bench.”
Along the way, enjoy Richmond’s scenic beauty and fascinating heritage before ending at the famous “Crown & Anchor” pub for an included lunch. We return to London later this afternoon, with the evening at leisure.
Today is free to explore London at your own pace. Your included hop-on/hop-off sightseeing pass offers the perfect way to discover iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and Covent Garden, or perhaps enjoy some shopping and dining in the lively West End.
This evening, we gather for a special farewell dinner as we reflect on our unforgettable journey together.
