Ian Duffy is the President of RIT Vacations and is passionate about helping travelers discover the very best of Ireland and the UK. With years of experience in the travel industry, he loves creating journeys that bring together culture, history, and warm hospitality. Ian works closely with partners across the pond to make sure every RIT vacation is filled with memorable experiences and authentic local charm.

Favourite RIT trip?
Glenbeigh will always be a favourite. I spent a week in the sweetest little cottage there, surrounded by mountains, beaches, creamy pints, and that warm village charm. A close second is a coastal driving holiday through Wales — winding roads, dramatic cliffs, and postcard-perfect seaside towns made it an unforgettable adventure. And of course, my brother’s wedding at the beautiful Hilton Park in Monaghan is one of my favourite travel memories.

Where haven’t you explored yet?

Top of my list right now are the Shetland Islands at Scotland’s northern tip. Remote, windswept, and closer to Norway than the UK mainland, they feel like an entirely different world. The history, the rugged landscapes, and the legendary Up Helly Aa festival have been calling my name for years.

There’s something thrilling about the idea of taking the overnight ferry across the North Sea in the middle of winter — part adventure, part madness, but absolutely unforgettable. I’d also love to spend more time in West Cork, soaking in the scenery, food, and slower pace that make it one of Ireland’s most captivating corners.

Favourite RIT trip?
My favourite trip has to be the Kerry Royal Coach Tour I did back in 2012. Killarney remains one of my favourite towns in Ireland, and I loved everything about Dingle as well as the medieval streets of Kilkenny. And no matter how many times I experience it, nothing beats the drive through Glencoe in Scotland — it’s always breathtaking.

Where haven’t you explored yet?
The Orkney Islands have long been on my travel wish-list. Their charming small towns, beautiful beaches, abundant wildlife, and dramatic sea cliffs all appeal to me, along with ancient archaeology to explore.

Favourite RIT Trip
You can never go wrong with London! I’ve been more times than I can keep track of, and there’s always something new waiting around the corner. I love the way the city mixes sleek modern buildings with Tudor and Victorian classics; it gives every walk a bit of contrast and character. And whatever you’re in the mood for 0 history, theatre, food, art, shopping, London has a neighbourhood or experience that fits perfectly. Plus, it’s an unbeatable base for day trips to places like Windsor, the Cotswolds, or Oxford. You could plan a whole itinerary without even trying!

Where haven’t you explored yet
I’d love to make my way out to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. The mix of dramatic coastline, remote islands, and that rugged, untouched atmosphere feels like somewhere I’d never get tired of discovering!

Favourite RIT trip?
London – York – Edinburgh by Rail
3 of the most iconic cities in the UK. Each busting with beautifully unique experiences and stunning scenery that will keep you wondering what you will discover around the next corner. It might just be your own personal ghost from the Ghost Merchants of York! Travel by train was simple and relaxing. Even had a chance to check on the First Class lounge for a latte and a quick snack.

Where haven’t you explored yet?
Scotland’s outer Islands and North Coast. I look forward to having the opportunity to get off the beaten path to explore the more remote areas of Scotland.

How many years have you worked for RIT?
4 months

Favourite RIT trip?
I’ve only done the one trip & that was our staff conference to Belfast just recently. I had a great time, I was there with my family in September, sprinkling the ashes of my parents in Dalkey, then we drove to so many places.

Where haven’t you explored yet?
There are so many places I would love to see…..Scotland probably being the first choice but also the more active ones in and around the UK are also on the list. I was born & raised there but there is so much more to see!
