Itinerary

Killarney

Begin your journey at Dublin’s historic Heuston Station and travel southwest through the lush countryside of Kildare, passing stud farms, the Curragh racecourse, and historic towns along the way. Continue through Tipperary and on to Cork, where your adventure truly begins.

From Cork, transfer by coach to the world-famous Blarney Castle & Gardens, built in 1446. Here you’ll have the chance to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone, said to bestow the gift of eloquence, as well as explore the gardens, shop, and enjoy lunch. The tour then continues via Cork City to the picturesque harbour town of Cóbh. Highlights include St. Colman’s Cathedral and the beautifully restored Victorian railway station, now the Cóbh Heritage Centre, which tells the moving story of Irish emigration and the millions who set sail from its port.

In the evening, board the train to Killarney, where you’ll have free time to explore this lively town. With its welcoming cafés, traditional pubs, and live Irish music, Killarney offers the perfect atmosphere to round off your first day.

Killarney

After a full Irish breakfast, set out on the world-famous Ring of Kerry, a route renowned for its sweeping mountain views, rugged coastline, and charming villages. The journey circles the MacGillycuddy Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range, and follows scenic routes along Dingle and Kenmare Bays.

Highlights include a visit to the Kerry Bog Village Museum (optional), a unique open-air display of rural life in 18th-century Ireland, and—weather permitting—stunning views of the Skellig Rocks, made famous by Star Wars. You’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch en route, with plenty of photo stops, and time to stroll through the colourful village of Sneem.

The return route takes in Glenbeigh and Waterville before arriving at Ladies View, where the famous Lakes of Killarney unfold beneath you, and through the oak woodlands of Killarney National Park. The evening is free to enjoy a second night in Killarney, with its welcoming pubs, music, and lively atmosphere.

Dublin

After breakfast, embark on a full-day tour of the Dingle Peninsula, famed for its rugged Atlantic coastline, ancient monuments, and rich cultural heritage. Scattered across the landscape are early Christian sites such as the Gallarus Oratory, while the region itself remains a stronghold of Irish language, music, and tradition.

Travel along Slea Head, the westernmost point in Europe, where dramatic ocean views stretch toward America and the Blasket Islands. Once home to a vibrant community of writers, the Great Blasket produced a remarkable literary legacy before its evacuation in the 1950s. The scenery here is considered among the most spectacular in Europe, with dramatic cliffs, scattered rocks, and wild beauty at every turn.

At the end of the day, return to Killarney Station for your evening train back to Dublin. Accompanied by your Railtours Ireland host, you’ll connect at Mallow to the intercity service and arrive back at Heuston Station in Dublin, bringing your Irish adventure to a memorable close.
