Your day begins with check-in for the 07:35 departure from Dublin Heuston Station. As the train heads southwest, it passes through Dublin’s suburbs before opening into the rolling pastures of County Kildare. Soon, the train glides across the famous Curragh, home to the Irish Derby and some of Ireland’s finest bloodstock training grounds. The journey continues through the heart of the Irish midlands, across the Bog of Allen and through the town of Tullamore, before crossing the River Shannon — the historic gateway to the West. As you near Galway, watch for your first glimpse of the shimmering waters of Galway Bay.
On arrival in Galway, you’ll be transferred by Aer Arann mini-coach to Connemara Airport for your short scenic flight to Inis Mór. From the air, enjoy sweeping views of Galway Bay, rugged coastlines, and the Atlantic before touching down on the island.
The Aran Islands are famed for their unspoilt charm, their traditional Irish-speaking communities, and their rich cultural heritage. On Inis Mór, your guided mini-coach tour begins with a stop at the atmospheric ‘Seven Churches,’ a site of early Christian ruins. Continue on to the island’s highlight — the ancient stone fort of Dún Aonghasa. Perched on sheer sea cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, this pre-Christian fortress offers staggering views and a glimpse into Ireland’s ancient past. Admission is not included, but the experience is well worth it.
Your tour also includes a stop in Kilronan, the island’s main village, where you’ll enjoy time for lunch and perhaps browse local craft shops showcasing traditional Aran knitwear.
In the afternoon, return by flight to Connemara Airport and transfer back to Galway. Here, you’ll have some free time in Galway city centre to explore its lively streets, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax around Eyre Square before boarding your return train to Dublin at 19:20. The journey takes you once more across the midlands and Shannon River, arriving back at Dublin Heuston at in the late evening.
Please note: In the event of adverse weather preventing flights, you will instead enjoy a scenic tour of Connemara, with a refund of the difference in cost. No further refund will be available should you choose not to take the alternative tour.
